Ever since…I wanna say Spring of this year, the month of
October has been built up as arguably THE biggest month for Anime in 2022, if
not the couple years of the new decade.
A couple of big premieres, some epic returns and brand new relaunches no
one ever thought would see the light of day, October is going to be a freaking
juggernaut of a time to be an Anime fan.
Since we’re only a few mere days from crossing over into this historic
time period, I wanted to take today’s Top 5 Wednesday to go over and rank the
biggest premires/returns/relaunches coming next month. It’s my Top 5 Anime Premieres in October
2022.
Despite the emergence of other powerful Shonen heavy
hitters like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and another certain title that we’ll
talk about in a minute, My Hero Academia continues to be one of the most
popular and accessible Anime titles out there.
Given how Season 5 most dealt with the build up to a massive conflict
between the Heroes and Villains, Season 6 looks like we’ll finally see some
payoff as all out war breaks out. With
Shiguraki now in command of the Paranormal Liberation Front, he’s gonna be
coming after the Hero Community with everything he’s got and more and Class 1-A
will be tested unlike never before.
While I get the feeling it might be overshadowed by the other titles
coming in October, My Hero Academia is still a close personal fav and I cant
wait for it to come back.
#4-Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (October
2, 2022)
If you don’t count the Gundam Build Fighters/Build Divers
series, then The Witch from Mercury is set to be the first brand new Gundam
series since 2015’s Iron Blooded Orphans.
With the Universal Century being continued in OVA and Film projects,
this new saga is set in yet another brand new timeline, the Ad Stella Era, and
will follow Suletta Mercury as she transfers to the Asticassia School of
Technology and subsequently becomes the pilot of the Gundam Aerial. To my knowledge, this will be the first
series in the franchise to be led by a female protagonist, with a bevy of other
students and assorted characters filling out the usually large Gundam cast
list. It’s been a long time since we’ve
gotten an original Gundam story like this and hopefully it’s less of a
Reconguista in G or Gundam AGE and closer to a G Gundam or Gundam Wing.
#3-Chainsaw Man (October 11, 2022)
I am totally in the dark about the plot, characters,
setting, pretty much everything about this one.
I’ve seen the cosplays and I know some characters have been making the
rounds online but I have purposefully held off on learning anything of note
about Chainsaw Man beyond what I’ve seen.
And what I have seen has me pretty hyped. This looks like it will be Shonen Anime’s
homage to the Anime of Excess of the late 80’s/early 90’s, with lots of sex,
crazy action sequences and an oceans worth of blood and gore. Cant be surprised about that last part since
the main character (presumably) is a literal man with Chainsaws on his arms and
on his freaking face. There’s a lot of
hype around this title and it stand poised to be another win for Shonen Anime
adaptations in the last few years. Who
knows, maybe this will grab me in a way Jujutsu Kaisen hasn’t yet.
#2-Spy X Family (Season 2) (October 1, 2022)
Truth be told, I don’t know why everyone is calling this
Season Two when really this is the second set of first episodes continued on
from earlier in the year. Spy X Family
blew up the Anime World when it debuted in the spring and its become a strong
contender for being Best Anime of 2022.
I don’t get why the decision was made to give the show a lengthy break
after a strong premiere but the good news is that I don’t think it will hurt
Spy X Family’s momentum. The world is
ready for more of Loid’s spy antics, Yor’s bloody chaos and Anya’s
adorability. Operation Strix still has a
ways to go before it’s mission accomplished and it only looks like it’s going
to get more and more hectic for the Forgers.
Expect the family to get an extra member of the fluffy variety and the
comedic gold to shine even brighter. I
know I for one am looking forward to tuning in week after week again for the
feel good Anime of the Year.
The minute this was announced to the world, it became the
most anticipated Anime premiere of 2022.
It’s been 10 long years since we last saw Ichigo Kurosaki and the Soul
Reapers in action and their original TV outing didn’t ever complete the
original Manga storyline. Well, the time
for that conclusion is now and the Soul Reapers are in for one helluva fight as
their opponents have the ability to make even their strongest attacks
useless. While it will probably fall to
Ichigo to save the world again, this is going to be a war that changes
everything for him and his allies. More
than any of that, it’ll be wild to be in an age where Bleach, a Naruto Spin Off
and One Piece are all airing at once. So
it’s like a Big Three reunion in a way.
Seriously, what a time it is to be a Shonen fan.
