Spy X Family. It’s
joined the likes of Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen in a continuing line of
Shonen success stories over the last couple of years and has a very strong
frontrunner for Anime of the Year.
Granted we need to see what happens when the show returns from its hiatus
in October (which is seriously shaping up to be a HUGE month for Anime this
year). But we’re all looking forward to
the continuing adventures of one of the most dysfunctional yet entertaining
families in Anime. More so, we’re all
looking forward to the return of everyones favorite ball of adorable cutness:
Anya Forger. This six year old psychic
who can read minds is well aware of the actual professions of her Papa and Mama
and couldn’t be more thrilled to be their kid.
Whenever Anya was onscreen during the First Season, she stole the show
everytime, whether from being the most adorable tyke or her gastly reactions to
more of Yor’s dark secrets revealed, or being a general bad ass from time to
time. So yeah…it’s time to countdown my
Top 5 Anya Forger Moments from Spy X Family (Season 1). Also I’ve looked a little ahead in the Manga,
some of these are definitely going to be topped when the show comes back, I
guarantee it.
Ok so this is a very brief moment but my God I love
it. Yor’s brother, Yuri, comes over to
meet Yor’s new husband, Loid, while Anya is asleep in her room cause it’s so
late. Shenanigans ensue and Yuri at one
point demands Loid and Yor kiss to prove their love. But Yor, even drunk, cant go through with it
and as Yuri desperately tries to pull them out of it, she hits him so hard he
slams into the wall connected to Anya’s room.
The little pink haired girl wakes up instantly and sleepily asks “Isit
the end of the world? Is it a bomb?” and then goes right back to sleep. Again, very brief but I couldn’t make this
list without bringing it up.
After the Forger Family makes it to the interview stage
of their Eden Entrance Exams, Anya does her best to answer all questions thrown
her way by a board of teachers. One in
particular, Murdoch Swan, is particularly nasty to poor Anya and has the gall
to ask her which Mother she prefers: Yor or her original mother. Poor Anya tears up so quickly and so much
that it makes you clench her heart. Not
only is it a cruel question to ask but we don’t actually know what happened to
Anya’s biological mother, though, Anya seems to have some recollection of her
judging from how sad she gets. It’s a
heart tugging moment and, like Loid, we all want to just say Screw It and lay
the smack down on Swan for being such a jerk.
Anya is worth protecting…and God forbid anyone who gets in the way of
her safety. You’re luck Swan, that
mahogany table couldve been you.
The pressure is on for Anya and her schoolmates when they
partake in a game of Dodgeball with a possible Stella badge on the line. However, their opposing team has a mammoth
student, Bill Watkins, on their side and he lays waste to everyone…except Anya
who can read his thoughts and simply side step each of his throws, causing the
towering Bill to freak out. Even Damien
makes the sacrifice play to keep Anya in the game. It all comes down to Anya unleashing a
“Special Move” Yor taught her. It has
the most epic Shonen build up as Anya prepares the “Killer Shot! Star Catch
Arrow!”…only for it to basically just lightly bounce into Bill’s hands, giving
him an easy win against her class.
You’ll get em next time kid.
(Also Anya’s freely calling Damien a “S***head” during a lot of this
episode, which is great).
While trying to earn a Stella badge through community
service, Anya finds she cant hack it doing much at a hospital with Loid. It’s a day that almost ends in defeat until
Anya hears the thoughts of a boy drowning in a nearby pool, having fallen in
due to a broken leg. Naturally, Anya
cant just say someones in trouble and out her abilities to her Papa. So Anya pretends to be bratty and want to go
for a swim. Even though she might not be
physically capable, Anya still dives head first into the deep end of the pool
to save the poor kid. Thankfully, Loid
takes the hint and pulls them both out but Anya is the real hero for not
hesitating to get in there and use her powers for the good of a stranger. She’s a superhero in the making for sure.
Anya’s first official day at Eden Academy doesn’t go
exactly as Loid wants it to. For one,
it’s Anya, her attention span is non existent if it doesn’t involve spies and
assassins. But she also has to contend
with the spoiled rotten Damien, the bratty child who is the son of Loid’s main
target. While Anya tries her best
(creepy but meme worthy) smile to be the higher person, she can only take but
so much. So at one point, Anya makes
sure the Headmaster isn’t looking…and hits Damien with a solid punch that even
One Punch Man’s Saitama would give a thumbs up to. Naturally, Anya gets in trouble for this but
unofficially, she gets the better deal.
She shows Damien what she’s made of and nets herself a much needed
friend in the form of Becky. Anya may be
tiny, but she packs one helluva punch, don’t mess with this girl trained by a
secret assassin Mama. Also when is someone going to make a short snippet of the punch matched to the opening "ONE PUUUUUUUUUCH!!!" cry from the First OP from One Punch Man?
