T5W#356-Top 5 Thoughts on the Resident Evil 4 Remake Reveal Trailer

I know I said that this would be a month of exclusively Gundam Top 5’s to coincide with Gundam Month Mark VI-The Undiscovered Country…but I’m sorry, I cant pass this up because HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP ITS REAL!!! ITS REAL AND ITS COMING NEXT MARCH!!!!!  Ahem…ok so that was my initial reaction and that continued on for some time.  At Sony’s State of Play Event last week, the announcement everyone had waited for three years was given to the world: Resident Evil 4 Remake is happening and it is coming to next gen consoles on March 24, 2023.  We didn’t just get a release date with the confirmation but a full reveal trailer and man it looks like theyre going all out to give us both an updated and yet brand new experience when it comes to one of the best Resident Evil games ever made.  And I’m here to break down what I think of what lies ahead.  These are my Top 5 Thoughts on the Resident Evil 4 Remake Reveal Trailer.

#5-Leon Talks with the President
Early shots of the trailer show Leon in the office of President Graham, who was often mentioned but never saw in the original.  This is the first indicator that beyond the vastly superior graphical upgrades, this game isn’t going to be a note for note remake.  We’ll be delving deeper into things like never before and that includes expanding the personal story of Leon.  This is probably when he gets the assignment to go rescue Ashley in the first place and is likely the first step to him forming his strong bond with President Graham and why he’d be trusted with such an important task.  I wonder if we’ll see more of Leon’s Secret Service history in addition to more scenes with Graham.

#4-New Playable Ashley Segments?
Speaking of the girl Leon’s supposed to rescue, we see several moments of Ashley fleeing through the woods from unknown pursuers.  Not only is it our first glimpse of a cute new outfit for the Presidents Daughter (more on that later), it’s also possible this means we’re going to get another playable section as Ashley in the game.  In the original, there’s a section of the Castle Segment where Ashley becomes separated from Leon and has to make her way back to him by evading Monsters and giant walking suits of Armored Ganados.  Much like Leon’s scenes with her Dad, could it be that this is part of an extended opening prologue for RE4 Remake?  Ashley can be resourceful so it’s no shock maybe she evaded her captors for a little while before being recaptured and placed in the church where Leon finds her.

#3-Borrowing from a Borrower of Inspiration
RE4 Remake looks far darker and more realistic than its original game.  This isn’t just from the graphical updates but I think RE4 Remake is also borrowing back from a game that, in turn, borrowed heavily from Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: Village.  RE4 Remake looks like it’s continuing in the visual spirit of Village with how decrepit and hellish the forest environments look and even some of the lighting looks pretty Village-ish.  This isn’t a bad thing since from a visual and gameplay standpoint, Village was pretty solid and took it’s RE4 Inspirations to heart.  Consider this RE4 Remakes way of thanking Village for doing such a good job and being allowed to continue its success in a different way.

#2-Ada my Ada
No new Resident Evil 4 Remake would be complete without the Queen of the Resident Evil femme fatales: Ada Wong.  We only see one quick glimpse of her, sporting what looks like a tight dark red turtleneck top and gun holster across her chest and back (and those gorgeous lips).  Like Ashley, Ada is clearly getting a new outfit which might be a controversial move for some fans.  Ada Wong’s Red Dress in the original game is her most iconic look.  Honestly though, Ada can rock anything (even her outfit in Resident Evil 6 with the leather pants is pretty sexy).  Plus I’m sure the OG Red Dress will be an unlockable look like Leon, Claire and Jill’s original RE looks were available in the other Remakes.  The question is, will RE4 Remake also incorporate Ada’s Separate Ways campaign into the main storyline so we can switch off and play as her for a little bit?  It would certainly be a good recovery considering that one of Resident Evil 3 Remakes biggest criticisms was it cut a lot of content from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.  More is always better, especially if that involves more Ada Wong and I cant wait to see her completed RE4 look.

#1-March 24, 2023 Cant Get Here Fast Enough
Let’s face it, we all knew this game was coming eventually.  But now that it’s been announced, the hype is so real its crazy.  I’ve played Resident Evil 4 multiple times across 4 separate systems: GameCube, Playstation 2, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  Never been bored, never felt like it was a tired experience.  Hell, Resident Evil 4 feels like a damn near perfect game.  Does it need a Remake?  No but neither did any of the other Resident Evil games and despite the misteps of 3, I’ve enjoyed them.  Resident Evil 4 is a whole other beast though.  It’s a game loved by not just RE fans but general gaming fans alike.  The action, the atmosphere, the scares, the characters (ohhhh Ada), and now we get to go back and experience the terror of the Ganados in a new way?  Guess I’ll be playing this game on a 5th system when Resident Evil 4 Remake (finally) arrives on March 24, 2023.  Time to head back to the Village one more time.
