The Dragons of Heaven and Earth have all gathered. Now only one piece remains: Kamui…or is it
two pieces? The revelation of a Second
Kamui sends ripples through the young mans life that will shape his destiny for
the battle to come. Dreams become
warnings. Nightmares become
reality. And those Kamui holds most dear
are in mortal danger. No matter his
choice: to become a Dragon of Heaven or a Dragon of Earth, there will be no
going back for Kamui. He thought he knew
true pain and fear…until now.
So, Fuma is the new Kamui, or the Dark Kamui…suppose that
was inevitable. Chalk it up to no one
else being around or the obviousness of Fuma’s creepy closeness warning with Kamui
last week. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not
a weak twist. In fact it gets things
rolling at long last for the show. The
first week was good set up. Week 2 was
hampered by a ton of backstory. Now, in
Week 3, things have finally started to boil over.
Dark Fuma seems an ok villain right now, even if he
dresses like a wannabe Darth Vader. He
loves to talk a lot and brag…really brag cause he’s so OP it’s hard to believe
how the DoH are going to defeat him.
Plus he likes to call himself “Kamui” now. Still,
he’s pretty brutal and had no qualms about killing Kotori and making Kamui
watch (possibly the most intense moment yet).
And still, they manage to fit in unlocked Yaoi Fan Fiction ability with
how flirty Fuma sounds when he talks to Kamui…or gets very intimately close. Ladies im sure that’s all for you. Let’s just
hope Fuma doesn’t add talking about himself in the third person to his list of
dark side abilities.
Destiny is indeed a cruel mistress for everyone in X. Hinoto’s revelation that the destiny of
Kotori and Kamui wouldn’t have changed much if Kamui had chosen the Dragons of
Earth, only he’d be the only killing her, is pretty sad. But why not just tell everyone what’s going
to happen and start a new chain of events that might change things up a
bit? Hinoto refusing to give up any info
cost Kamui Kotori and herself Saiki, who we learned was in love with her all
along. If she took a chance and had
faith in the people she sees as the protectors of the future, maybe her visions
wouldn’t turn out so horrible.
Speaking of, Saiki’s death is sad but I wish he had been
given a little more to do. I often talk
about how big this cast is and how it could really be cut down from teams of
seven to four or five. Saiki could have
easily been a DoH instead of his still not really developed Uncle or the
Firestarter from the Red Light District.
When the DoH all gathered around Kamui, it didn’t have as much payoff as
id hoped. If it had just been characters
we’d gotten to know and had been around from the beginning: Sorata, Arashi
(both of whom haven’t done much in a bit), Subaru (who served a better purpose
this week than last. Seriously, his trip
into Kamui to save his soul was a better intro episode for him than his intro
the week before) and Yuzuriha (just to make the team an even five but she’s
still my least favorite charater), then it would feel more complete. Adding in two more characters to their team
when things are starting to get going feels forced just to balance out the
numbers. And don’t get me started on
these two technologically based side forces who have only been in the show for
five seconds just to be random support for Kamui…I don’t think they deserve
much mention to time to be delved into.
The DoE got their numbers sorted as well in addition to
Fuma (I’m not gonna call him Kamui though he insists on it to everyone
else). Turns out GI Joe (yes he has a
name but im just gonna keep calling him that) is a member, which means Yuzuriha’s
gonna be heartbroken when she inevitably has to fight him. Oh and the DoE have a Dream Seer of their own
(yeah, Kanoe just spies, she cant see dreams on her own, I should point
out). Kakyo’s an odd but likeable choice
for the DoE. It hard to imagine how he
could fight in his state (comatose on the outside but his spirit wanders
dreams) but the way he talks and looks about things, he could very well be the
more sad and welcoming voice for the DoE rather than Kanoe and her massive
chest.
Lastly, gotta point out Kamui’s good growth this
week. After being an unlikeable ass, the
death of Kotori and Subaru nearly killing himself to save his soul, Kamui began
to finally lighten up. He accepted
Subaru’s help, Sorata’s friendship and even tried to patch things up with Saiki
before he got killed. He’s still got a
ways to go before he’s ready to take on Fuma but right now, Kamui’s on the
right track to being a likeable hero. No
doubt losing Saiki not long after Kotori’s gonna weigh on him. But this final battles just getting started
and Fuma’s looking to up his kill count quite a bit just to torture his former
best friend…or try to goad him into sleeping with him, it’s hard to tell where
Fuma’s priorities are when it comes to Kamui really.
All in all, X got good this week and rebounded a lot. The story got thrown into overdrive, Kamui
made his choice and dealt with the consequences, and Kanoe and her team have
their ace in the hole…but is that a good thing?
Probably not and I wont be surprised if he turns on his own team…it’d be
worth it to see things not go Kanoe’s way for once.
The starters gun has been fired. Let’s see how the DoH hold up after the chaos
really gets going next week.
