March 2014. I was feeling a lull in short story writing
and wanted to find a way to keep myself writing more frequently when that well
ran dry for a little bit. Then it
somehow hit me: I want to do something with Anime and Reviews. A few days before the end of the month, I
decided to greenlight the Anime Corner on another platform and on March
31, 2014, I posted my first review of the first 7 episodes of Eden of the
East. About a year later, I decided
to switch platforms to the one I’ve been using ever since and I rebranded the
blog the Gundam Anime Corner.
Since then, my little corner of the universe has grown to encompass over
900 reviews of TV Series, Movies, OVA, and even Live Action Adaptations. Each year I try to find new ways to broaden
content, from the long running Top 5 Wednesdays to the recurring First
Impression Fridays and occasional looks at the histories of some of my favorite
Anime and Video Game franchises. It’s
challenging to say the least, but rewarding.
It's been so wild I’ve been doing this for 10 years. There have been ups and downs. Sometimes I feel like I’m not giving a series
my all and other times I feel like I’m fighting through burnout so I don’t
think about abandoning this place. The
last couple of years have been especially rough due to the Pandemic, losing my
Dad and other matters that drive me up a mental wall. Despite all of that hardship, the Gundam
Anime Corner is a personal project I’m hella proud of. Week after week, I get to look at the medium
and titles I enjoy…and sometimes don’t and I get to rip them a new one. This is a place I can come to in order to
vent, relax, and talk about the things I love while also, hopefully,
introducing new fans to new titles and even discovering something new myself.
Good times or bad, I have no intention of stopping work
on this blog anytime soon. It’s been a
long road getting from there to here but the journey going forward is gonna be
some of the best stuff I have planned yet.
So before I get into a sneak peak of whats coming over the next couple
of months: Thank You to everyone who is either a regular reader or stops by for
a quick second to take a glimpse of what’s around. This blog is as much for you as it is for me
and I cant wait to see what new worlds I can explore and delve into right here
at the Gundam Anime Corner. Happy
Birthday GAC!!!!!!!
Now then, onto the good stuff. And if you’re new here, this’ll be a good
primer for what to expect during your stay here.
Reviews:
These are the bread and butter of the Anime Corner and
2024 is shaping up to have some of the biggest titles yet. The new year kicks off tomorrow, April 1st,
with Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Since last year I’ve dialed back doing two
reviews a week just so I don’t overload myself (free time isnt what it was
during the couple of years I was out of work during the Pandemic). G Witch will be a special occasion with two
reviews weekly over the first three weeks of April. After that, we close out April with reviews
of the two newest seasons of FLCL-Grunge and Shoekaze (and I still cant
believe I have to say there’s more than one season of FLCL now). May will see us tackling another Studio
Ufotable work based on another popular Japanese Video Game franchise with Katsugeki/Touken
Ranbu. And June will see us return
to the futuristic dystopia of Psycho Pass for a month of movies
including the Sinners of the System Trilogy and the newest chapter in
the Psycho Pass saga, Psycho Pass: Providence. Pretty packed I’d say and we haven’t even
gotten to the annual Extended Summer Series review yet. But I’ll talk more about that closer to July.
Hard to believe that we passed the 450th mark
just before todays 10th Anniversary.
For the month of April, each episode is gonna be dedicated to all topics
Gundam, to coincide with the 45th Anniversary of the franchise and
my reviews of The Witch from Mercury.
After that, it’s all random, seldomly planned the way Top 5 Wednesday
usually rolls.
Except for having reviews of G Witch, Friday is gonna be a little vacant for
the next couple of months. I’m working
on a potential new miniseries special but that’ll probably end up being a
Thursday scheduled event and wont happen til after Otakon in August. Speaking of Post Otakon, First Impression
Friday, that occasional Friday feature I mentioned, will return with
another string of episodes on August and run til about October or
November. Tl;dr, Fridays are a bit in
flux atm but part of the fun is wondering what I’ll come up with to share with
you all.
