Macross Delta Part 5 Episodes 21-26

Mikumo’s true identity is revealed and with it, Roid finds the final piece to complete his plans of galactic dominance.  With the UN Spacey powerless to stop Windermere, it’s up to the Macross Elysium, Walkure and Delta Flight to end the war once and for all.  But with Mikumo in enemy hands and Freya’s confidence shattered, the odds have never been this stacked against them.  That won’t stop Hayate and Mirage from fighting their hardest to protect their friends and free the galaxy from Roid.  It’s time for Walkure to step onto the ultimate stage and the galaxy is waiting for what could be their greatest (and possibly last) performance.

I’ll admit right here: maybe last week I was a bit hard on Macross Delta, especially after speaking with a friend who really enjoys it.  Honestly, a lot of frustrations I’d been having with the series second half boiled over by that sets end and while I don’t think every complaint was invalid, it seemed like I was almost willing to give up on Delta before the finale, thinking this was becoming Macross 7 all over again.  What a fool I was.  While it didn’t reach the heights of the Series Finale of Macross Frontier, Macross Delta managed to regain its altitude and blaze across the screen a pretty decent send off.  Characters got to shine (even those doing so super late in the game), the action was solid and the resolution to a great love triangle worked out perfectly.  Not everything was great but considering where I last left things with this show, it’s a good enough recovery to put a smile on my face.

T5W#567-Top 5 Anime Inspirations in My Adventures with Superman

It’s been a couple of weeks since the long awaited third season of My Adventures with Superman got started.  For those not in the know, this series focuses on the early days of Clark Kent as Superman, getting into those titular adventures alongside his best friends, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, and, as of Season Three, his cousin Kara aka Supergirl.  Whether the show is as good as the much beloved Timmverse of DC Animated shows is debatable but I love this show and it’s much needed lighthearted, optimistic and fun take on the Man of Steel and friends.  Plus, it’s pretty obvious the show has a huge amount of Anime love and influence in just about every frame of every episode.  Tbh it kind of sits on the same shelf as Avatar: The Last Airbender, clearly Anime inspired but not an Anime itself.  So to celebrate the show being back, and now that I think about it, to get a little pumped for the Supergirl movie coming out this weekend, we take to the skies in this weeks Top 5 Wednesday as we look at the Top 5 Anime Inspirations in My Adventures with Superman.

Macross Delta Part 4 Episodes 16-20

Windermere now controls the entire Globular Cluster but it refuses to stop there.  Now the entire galaxy is in its crosshairs and they will not stop until Humanity is wiped out and they’ve claimed the mantle of true heirs to the Protoculture.  Outgunned, outnumbered and low on resources, the Macross Elysium and her crew seek a way to end the conflict before it gets worse.  On the planet Voldor, Walkure faces off with Heinz and the Aerial Knights in a performance that rocks the cluster to its core.  And Hayate discovers a startling revelation about his father that could change his life forever.

Last week’s set of Macross Delta episodes closed out its first half pretty strongly with an Empire Strikes Back influenced outcome for our heroes.  The second half didn’t get off to the strongest start, lingering in place even though it set a bold new (and kind of dumb) path for Windermere going forward.  Today we get into the more nitty gritty of Delta’s back half of episodes and I have to say, despite some genuine good moments, I’m kind of worried about the show.  I mean when you have epic sing-offs followed by a Macross Historical power point to try and prove one of the most farfetched theories that spans the entire franchise, even by Macross standards I think Macross Delta might by try to exceed its reach much like Windermere.  Anyway, onto the episodes.

T5W#566-Top 5 Favorite Studio Sunrise Titles (That Arent Gundam)

Studio Sunrise, what kind of an Anime fan would I be without them?  Incase you’ve never noticed by the adorable little green robot that rolls across their logo in most features, Sunrise is most well known as the stewards and creators of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.  Since then and before then, they have been one of the biggest Anime studios of all time, in particular they are the masters of the Mecha Anime Genre.  While Mecha might be their bread and butter, Sunrise does a lot more in it’s downtime between Gundam titles.  Since the Studio is turning 50 next year and there’s talk of some celebratory projects in the works, figured I’d give Sunrise a shoutout on this weeks Top 5 Wednesday.  And just to be fair and a little less predictable…Gundam will not be on the list (I mean it’s my all time favorite by default, that’d be cheating even if it is honest),  So without further ado, here are my Top 5 Favorite Studio Sunrise Titles (That Arent Gundam).

Macross Delta Part 3 Episodes 11-15

As Walkure and Delta Flight mourn a terrible loss, Windermere launches an all out offensive, using the power of the Protoculture Ruins to claim more systems in the Globular Cluster with little resistance.  The war seems to be coming to a head as all eyes fall to the last free planet of the system: Ragna. Combining what forces are left in their military, the Macross Elysium launches into battle, with Delta Flight and Walkure taking point as the ultimate battle with Windermere begins.

So here’s the thing I’m starting to slowly realize about Macross Delta. My feelings towards it have so far been positive.  The more I watch though, I still mostly feel that way but not in a mind blown “this is awesome” kind of way.  It’s more of a “It’s…ok” kind of way.  IDK maybe part of the reason I feel more positively about Macross Frontier is because I watched it after the horendeous Macross 7 and it was a major breathe of fresh air and relief.  Delta tries to continue in the same vein but it’s just fine, not terrible but not quite on Frontier’s level either.  Let’s breakdown why this weeks set has me more on the fence than before and my concerns going forward.

T5W#565-Top 5 Favorite Reveals from Summer Game Fest 2026

2026 has had a nice showing of incredible video games like Resident Evil: Requiem and 007: First Light and we’re all waiting to see what kind of sales records Grand Theft Auto VI makes in the Fall.  But ngl, 2027 is looking to be an even bigger year for gaming if last weeks Summer Game Fest is to be believed.  From long awaited conclusions to new remasters and even some no brainer add ons to fighting rosters that should have happened forever ago, I was definitely cheering at some of these announcements.  Just how pumped am I for the games of 2027?  Let’s find out in todays Top 5 Wednesday as I share my Top 5 Favorite Reveals from Summer Game Fest 2026.

Macross Delta Part 2 Episodes 6-10

The Kingdom of Windemere has declared war on the New UN Spacey government.  To the shock of all, they are able to use Var Syndrome as a way to mind control the military’s of various worlds, seizing them without a fight. Pressed into service, Walkure undertakes a risky recon mission.  Waiting for them are Windermere’s elite Aeriel Knights and their first taste of war.  Hayate and Freya face pressure from their peers to perform well in these new conditions.  But this isnt what either of them signed up for.  Will true combat make or break the two of them?

I don’t get why people have been ragging on Macross Delta.  From what I’ve heard, this show is supposedly so idol focused over the Mecha action that it could very well be the reason we haven’t heard a peep from Macross in over a decade.  But I call fowl on that assumption because this second outing was just as strong as last weeks premiere and it hasn’t skimped on anything that makes Macross, Macross.  It isnt perfect but there’s still 15 episodes left to iron out some continuing wrinkles.  Anyway, onto this latest set of episodes.

T5W#564-Top 5 Anime Characters Who Belong on Battlestar Galactica (2004)

Recently Paramount+ became the new streaming home for one of my favorite TV Series of all time: the 2004 Reboot of Battlestar Galactica.  For those maybe not in the know: the reboot follows the original premise of the 1978 scifi classic, following a fleet of human refugee ships, led by the titular Battlestar Galactica, fleeing from a race of robots known as the Cylons.  This show means a lot to me, mostly due to me and my Dad doing our best to watch it together week after week even while I was away at college.  I’m about halfway through my rewatch so naturally, the topic turns to how would this show work as an Anime?  Probably quite well, especially considering shows like Space Battleship Yamato had similar themes and setups back when it was airing well before the original Galactica itself.  So new question then: if I were to assemble a cast for a BSG Anime, who would I pick from the countless number of SciFi Anime pilots, Captains and femme fatales?  That’s the question I’m gonna answer on todays Top 5 Wednesday as I list the Top 5 Anime Characters Who Belong on Battlestar Galactica (2004).  So Say We All.  Quick Note: I’m sticking to a one character per franchise rule on this one otherwise most of it would be Gundam characters…maybe a thought for a later list?

Macross Delta Part 1 Episodes 1-5

2067AD.  Mankinds expansion into the cosmos continues but a dangerous new threat has arisen: Var Syndrome.  It’s ability to cause random citizens to become bloodthirsty berserkers is causing chaos on several planets.  To combat this outbreak, a special unit is created: The Tactical Sound Unit Walkure.  Only their music seems to be able to quell the effects of Var Syndrome.  It’s this group Freiya Wion wishes to join more than anyone and backing her up as her protective pilot is drifter Hayate Immelmann, a young man seeking his own dream.  Music and Metal take to the skies once more.

Been a minute since we’ve visited Macross eh?  Well you can blame the near fatal idea I had to make Macross 7 my Extended Series Review which was such a bad experience I pushed Macross Frontier back a few weeks to recover, not knowing that Frontier was just the feel good experience I needed.  Well break time’s over and Macross Delta is now on deck for review.  I haven’t heard much about this series going in.  I’ve only noticed that this is, as of this writing, the most recent Macross franchise entry and that was back in 2016.  Also this show has a greater emphasis on the idol side than the mecha side.  Is that second part true?  Is there a reason we haven’t heard a peep from Macross since this series?  Guess we’re gonna get to the bottom of that mystery this month so what’re we waiting for.  How’s the debut of Macross Delta?
