Little sisters.
Love em or hate em, theyre an important part of all of our lives. I sit firmly in the former category: my
little sis drives me crazy but no one gets me better and I love her all the
more for it. When it comes to little
sisters in Anime, they can be the best backup or your worst nightmare,
sometimes both at once. As a little
belated birthday gift to my sis, whose birthday was last weekend, todays Top 5
Wednesday is highlighting some of the most adorable hellions in Anime, from
adorable bad asses to terrifying demons from Hell. These are my picks for the
Top 5 Himouto’s In Anime.
So Pan in Dragon Ball GT…not a fan. She takes a lot of the spotlight for the
characters I’d rather see and she’s just as annoying as Goten and Trunks. Now, Dragon Ball Super Pan, specifically the
one we see in the DBS: Super Hero Movie, holy crap she’s so adorable and
endearing. Seeing her shrug off serious
hits and smiling that infectious smile at her big green Grandpapa Piccolo,
anyone would be hella proud to have her as a daughter or a sibling. Also, kid knows how to handle herself,
beating up random bad guys who try to BS that they were sent to pick her up
from school. Dear Pan, please don’t age
up.
Some siblings you fight through hell and back to
protect. Sometimes those siblings that
need that kind of support from their family can give it back too. Nezuko and Tanjiro are the new Elrics for a
new generation but Nezuko herself is a whole other kind of wild card. At one point, she can be a tiny, super cute
living plushie with big eyes who loves head pats. But when Demons strike, Nezuko goes full Mr.
Hyde by warping into a taller, stronger, deadlier weapon of mass destruction
who wont stop until the threat is a whole other kind of red colored jelly. Nezuko’s power makes her formidable but the
hurt its putting on her is more than enough for anyone to want to help her
brother free her from her curse.
Umaru Chan, at one point the definitive image of the term
“Himouto”. On the surface she’s an
angel: the best looking girl in school with looks and brains and elegance. It’s when she gets home where the real terror
begins. Transforming into a chibified,
Hamster hoodie sporting brat, Umaru indulges in her love of Video Games, Manga,
Anime, Snacks and other vices to the point where she drives her older brother
continuously insane. On the one hand
though, this could a dream come true, the ultimate Himouto Otaku. But even siblings have their limits, too bad
Umaru has none.
The moment we met this little pink haired psychic, it
became clear she needed to be protected at ALL COSTS!!! Anya is easily the true beating heart of Spy
X Family. Any time she’s on screen, a
fun show gets better. All you need is
her wild imagination and overreactions when everything goes wrong, or
right. The kid also has a big heart,
wanting to do anything to keep her family together and help her Papa accomplish
his ultimate mission of achieving world peace.
In short, Anya’s the best part of Spy X Family and any episode that
reduces her screentime is kind of hurting itself in the process (still funny
but its always better when Anya’s around).
She started the series for me as an immature kid who was
just around to cause trouble. She finished her tenure on the series as one of
my all time favorite characters.
Chibiusa has all of her mothers heroic spirit and penchant for getting
into all kinds of trouble. Yet her flaws
never stop her from giving the fight her all and Chibiusa never hesitates to
step up and call out anyone on their beliefs.
Then there’s her relationship with the younger version of her mother,
which provides some of the biggest laughs due to their comedic timing and most
heart tugging moments when Chibiusa allows herself to be honest about how much of
an inspiration Usagi is to her. Probably
one of the biggest crimes of Sailor Moon is sitting Chibiusa out of the final
season after the first arc. But I guess
by then we knew well enough she was ready to forge her own path in her own time
and become the true successor to Sailor Moon she always would be. Any older sibling figure would be hella
proud.
