Anime fans got an early Christmas present last Saturday
when we at last got our first official look at the long awaited return of Demon
Slayer. While we aren’t getting before
the end of this year, the Third Season, the Swordsmith Village Arc, will arrive
Next April. Considering how the
Entertainment District Arc ended, the bar has been set pretty high for the
future adventures of Tanjiro and Nezuko (especially when it comes to the fights
but I’ll talk about that). With a full
slate of highly anticipated Anime coming in Early 2023 (including Season Two of
Jujutsu Kaisen and Trigun Stampede), Demon Slayer is close to the top of the
list for most Anime fans out there.
Seeing as how this has become one of my most favorie Anime of the new
early decade, I’m hyped as heck for more spectacular, Ufotable animated action
and horror antics. Ergo, today’s Top 5
Wednesday will be covering my Top 5 Thoughts on the Demon Slayer: Swordsmith
Village Arc Debut Trailer. There’s a lot
to cover so let’s leap into it like true Demon Slayer Corp recruits, shall we?
It’s been almost a year since we last checked in with our
favorite troupe of Demon Hunters. Last
time we saw Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke, they’d been recruited by
another Hashira, Tengen, to inverstigate Demon activity in the Entertainment
District. Turns out it wasn’t just any
run of the mill Demon on the prowl but a pair of Muzan’s Upper Level Demons:
Daki and Gyutaro. After an intense but
incredible fight, Tenjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke used all of their might to slay
the siblings and save the lives of Tengen and this three Ninja wives. With this being an additional win for the
Demon Slayer Corps, the head of their order, Kagaya, thinks that Muzan’s
downfall is inevitable…well we’ll see about that.
The big bad of Demon Slayer, Muzan Kibutsuji, is one of
the most chilling and scary villains in recent Anime. Not only is he rocking Michael Jackson’s
Smooth Criminal look to a T, he can also decimate and intimidate with a single
look. Muzan’s lost quite a few of his
underlings to the Demon Slayer Corps and even did some personal house cleaning
of his Lower Rank soldiers at the end of Season One. However, with several Upper Rank Demons
falling in succession to not only Hashira but also three battle proven rookies,
Muzan’s not a happy camper. From the
looks of the trailer and promotional poster for the Swordsmith Village Arc, Tanjiro
will face several more of Muzan’s forces, including an old enemy Akaza, who
killed Rengoku at the end of the Mugen Train movie. Whatever Muzan’s grand design is, he isn’t letting
the defeat of two Upper Ranks go unpunished.
While I’m sure they’ll be around, two members of Tanjiro’s
Demon Slaying crew are suspiciously absent from the Debut Trailer. Zenitsu and Inosuke, like many other
characters, have their respective devoted fanbases and both were given big
roles and arcs in the Entertainment District Arc. Zenitsu in particular built up more of a
spine against Daki before he spent most of the arc knocked out and in his more
bad ass trance mode. One possibility is
that the pair might sit out the Swordsmith Village Arc due to the injuries they
sustained in the fight against Daki and Gyutaro, Inosuke himself nearly died though he had his
Demon poison removed by Nezuko. They
might need more R&R before meeting up with Tanjiro and Nezuko later on.
Though they were only around briefly in Season One, the
Demon Slayer Corps Elites, the Hashira, quickly gained a lot of love and
adoration for their designs and character traits. The Swordsmith Village Arc seems to be
continuing the tradition of assigning a Hashira for Tanjiro to shadow and
assist (In Mugen Train Movie it was Rengoku and Tengen during the Entertainment
District Arc). This time, however, Tanjiro
will be running around with a pair many have been looking forward to seeing for
a while :Muchiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji.
Mitsuri in particular is a huge fan favorite to see cosplayed at
conventions and everyones been dying to see these two would be romantically
linked Hashira in action together. On
another note, another character we haven’t seen since Season One, Genya
Shinazugawa, also appeared in the Debut Trailer. He’s kind of been set up as the Vegeta to
Tanjiro’s Goku and we haven’t checked in with him in a while. Guess if Zenitsu and Inosuke are taking five,
Genya might be called upon to back up Tanjiro, whether he wants to or not.
In the last few years, Demon Slayer has shot up the
popularity charts when it comes to Anime.
In 2020, it was one of the few films to be released without incident
during the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually becoming the Highest Grossing Film of
the Year Worldwide. And after the wildly
successful US Theatrical Run of the Mugen Train film in 2021, the worldwide
appeal of Demon Slayer cant be denied.
As such, Ufotable is making a huge marketing push for the beginning of
the Swordsmith Village Arc. Not only will
the Season Premiere be a special one hour episode but Ufotable will be
screening the premiere in a special theatrical marathon that will include the
final two episodes of the Entertainment District Arc. Considering how mind blowingly awesome the
final clash with Daki and Gyutaro was, seeing that on the big screen would be
amazing Just saying, you don’t see a lot
of Anime getting this kind of treatment for the Season Premiere of a TV
Series.
