T5W#238-Top 5 Dragon Ball Z Abridged Series Moments

There’s been much speculation as to the future of Dragon Ball Z Abridged since the end of it’s third season back in late 2018.  Well a couple weeks ago, Team Four Star, the team that took Abdridging into the stratosphere made the official announcement: The are no plans to move forward with Dragon Ball Z Abridged Season 4 aka the Buu Saga.  You can find the lengthy and tear jerking explanation over at their Youtube page right here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZy8D4B8LLs&t=159s).  Suffice to say, they are very good and very valid reasons and there should be zero reason to be mad.  Very rarely do creators of certain shows get the opportunity to end projects on their own terms.  And I agree with KaiserNeko, if DBZA could end on any note, the finale of the Cells Games was absolutely perfect.  It’s not like Team Four Star wont be continuing to produce new content of their own…it just wont be Dragon Ball related…and that’s ok.  Today on Top 5 Wednesday, I’m truly challenging myself in that I’m going to look back over 11 years, 3 seasons and 60 episodes worth of content to choose the.  And that’s just the beginning.  All this month I’ll be dedicating Top 5 Wednesday to Team Four Star’s flagship magnum opus, looking at the best moments from their multiple DBZA projects.  Right now though, my Top 5 Dragon Ball Z Abridged Series Moments.  KaiserNeko, Lanipator and Takahata 101, this is for you guys.

#5-The Blue Screen of Death Scare (Episode 33)

We’ve all been there: working on a random project for school when all of a sudden, the computer screen freezes, no button will fix it, the mouse wont move.  Then…it arrives: the Blue Screen of Death, which means a full blown restart is needed and pray to God nothing of value has been lost.  We all fear it, we all hate it…and somehow TFS turned it into one of the best jokes of all time.  As Super Saiyan Future Trunks cleaves Cyborg Frieza in two with his sword, we see Frieza freaking out with a loud cybernetic cry and then…BOOM…the Blue Screen of Death appears…before being cut in half itself as a result of Trunks’ attack.  If you were watching this for the first time in Full Screen Mode then this probably freaked everyone out, myself included.  But man…that was really freaking clever guys.

#4-“Get out of my F’ing Timeline”-The True Series Finale (Episode 60 Epilogue)
This would end up being the absolute final note on the entire DBZA series and I’m happy for this, mostly because Trunks’ return to the future to kick the crap out of the Androids and Cell is one of my favorite episodes of all of Dragon Ball Z.  Trunks gets his closure, his enemies of this time period get whats coming to them, it’s all golden.  While his fight with 17 & 18 is fun and rewarding, it’s his fight with Imperfect Cell that’s the best part.  Trunks gets to channel his father in all the best ways (“Bitch…I’m adorable”) and finally end Cell with the best jab at multiverse theory ever, “GET OUT OF MY F’ING TIMELINE!!!”  As a big fan of Future Trunks, you couldn’t ask for a better send off for the character, and as it turns out, Dragon Ball Z Abridged in general.

#3-The Death of Guru (Episode 30 Part 3)
Possibly the biggest change to any character in the DBZ mythos through DBZA is Guru.  Originally a wise and caring elder Namekian, TFS changed him to an insane former dictator who at one point incited genocide to cover up the fact that he drank all of Planet Namek’s water, resulting in a drought.  Guru might’ve had some of the shows best lines.  But his best moment was when his dark secret came to light.  The Namekians take the news very well…devouring their former madman leader while he screams “NAIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!!!” knowing no help is coming to his rescue…and even if he could Nail would probably just help kill him too.

#2-Squeaky Toy Goku (Episode 10 Part 2)
I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard at anything in my entire life (so much so I pissed off my family, who was sleeping in our motel room when I woke them up).  Humor through ones own pain shouldn’t be taken lightly.  However, the way Goku screams in this moment is so over the top it couldn’t not be taken advantage of.  And then…SQUEEK…I was right there with Ape Vegeta “What the?”  Everytime he squeezes Goku for the first time and that squeak is heard…I ball out laughing.  It’s simple, it’s unexpected and it is F’ing hilarious.

#1-The Ultimate Vegeta Rage (Episode 18)
Spoiler Alert for a future Top 5: Vegeta is my favorite character in all DBZA.  Lanipator captures his fun arrogance and failures perfectly, giving us one of the funniest and yet deepest characters of the whole show.  Vegeta could have a Top 5 list all to himself of his funniest moments in the show.  His #1 would be this same moment.  Realizing a Dragon Ball he’d carefully hidden had been secretly snatched away by Gohan, Vegeta explodes (prompted by a confirming thought from the ever awesome Ghost Nappa).  Vegeta screams his way across the planet and that scream not only echoes across the planet and space…but also time itself.  Yes, Future Trunks hears his fathers scream during a clip from the forthcoming History of Trunks special.  It’s the perfect moment to sum up the Prince of All Saiyans and why you NEVER want to piss him off.
