T5W#505-Top 5 Biggest Questions about the New UC in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX has launched and after months of sitting on it after seeing the “Beginnings” movie, I can finally talk about one of the big major sell points of the series.  It was confirmed forever ago that GQuuuuuX takes place in an alternate Universal Century timeline, centering on the aftermath of one simple question: What if Char Aznable stole the original Gundam?  This results in some pretty radical changes for not just the One Year War but it’s aftermath as well.  With Episode 2 of GQuuuuuX detailing the history of this new UC, it feels as good a time as any to discuss my Top 5 Biggest Questions about the New UC in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Episode 2 of GQuuuuuX and the “Beginnings” Movie

#5-What’s the situation with the Colonies?
So Zeon wins the One Year War.  Side Three has it’s independence and the Earth Federations been kicked all the way back to Earth.  So what’s happening with the Colonies?  Judging from how things are in Machu’s Side 6 Colony, it’s not ideal in at least some places.  Zeon isnt beloved everywhere and where they aren’t policing themselves, the Military Police forces are Titans level brutes who will tear apart a slum just to find a Mobile Suit.  How other Sides joined with Zeon to build a larger empire in space?  And speaking of the defeated Federation…

#4-What’s the situation on Earth?
While I don’t think the Federations completely pulled out of space, they’ve definitely retreated most of their forces back to Earth. After their colossal failure to defeat Zeon, I cant see many respecting their authority at this stage.  Heck it makes me think the Federation is now in a state similar to that of Victory Gundam where they’re a shadow of their former selves and would gladly roll over and accept the rule of whatever space empire wants to invade them next.  On the other hand, I cant see the EF doing that either.  If Gundam X is any indicator, they aren’t about to let this embarrassment go unanswered…

#3-What other prominent Zeon Members are still around?
Besides Chalia Bull, we get a bunch of character name drops on the Zeon side in Episode 1, including confirmation that Kycillia Zabi is in charge and M’Quve has a pretty prominent role in her circle as well.  We hear that Garma had left the military and Dozle was killed at Solomon.  Plus there’s no way Ghirren would just let Kycillia take his throne as Zeon’s head honcho willingly.  And that’s just the Zabi family.  With the One Year War outcome changed, is it possible other legendary Zeon figures are still out there, maybe even helping run the Principality with Kycillia?  Where’s Ramba Ral?  Anavel Gato?  Haman Kahn?  Also has Kycillia kept her smoking hot outfit but dropped the Cobra Commander helmet and mask?  Haman could give her some fashion tips.

#2-Where are Amuro and the White Base Crew?
During Char’s attack of Side 7, we never get a glimpse of any of the White Base crewmembers who never get to crew their now Zeon sided ship.  Mirai, Kai, Fraw, Hayato and Sayla were all headed for civilian shelters when the attack happened and Amuro was trying to find his father but found the Gundam instead.  Chances are Amuro missed the Gundam by a couple of minutes before Char boarded it.  I’ve got an even worse feeling about Bright and Ryu, since Char destroyed the bridge of White Base and seriously damaged the ship (killing original White Base Captain Palao).  Are they ok?  What happened to the group post Side 7?  The only character we know for sure ended up in the EF was Sayla, as seen in the Beginnings Movie when she crosses paths with her brother on Solomon.  Which leads us to the big question of the new UC…

#1-What happened to Char?
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack ended with Amuro and Char being swallowed up by a mysterious phenomena that deflected the Axis asteroid from it’s collision with Earth.  History seemed to repeat itself 14 years earlier when Char’s Psy Commu unit overloaded and caused a similar event that saved Granada from destruction at the hands of Solomon.  Even the Red Comet seemed bewildered by what was transpiring, stopping short of the famous line from 2010: The Year We Made Contact, “My God, it’s full of stars.”  Did Char vanish just like his 0093 counterpart?  His Red Gundam has ended up in the hands of a random youth named Shuji but I doubt the kid inherited it from the Red Comet himself.  Idk, it seems unlikely we’ll see Char again in GQuuuuuX outside of flashbacks but its not wise to bet against the Red Comet.
