Years after it was announced by Castlevania creator Adi
Shankar, Netflix’s Devil May Cry finally dropped last weekend and…it was
alright. I’ll admit I liked it overall
better than Season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne but I can see why some fans of
the games aren’t too thrilled overall with it (particularly when it comes to
Dante and especially Lady). Overall
though, I had fun running through it and definitely think there’s room to
improve and stuff to look forward to in a potential Second Season. What ideas can I offer as a long time DMC
fan? Well that’s what we’re here to talk
about on today’s Top 5 Wednesday, the Top 5 Things I Wanna See in Netflix’s
Devil May Cry Season 2. Let’s rock.
If Season One borrowed elements mostly from Devil May Cry
3: Dante’s Awakening, then Season 2 is poised to be a mix of the first two
games in the series. With the US
invading Hell (yes that happens), two major antagonists seem set to take
centerstage. The first is Demon Emperor
Mundus, who’s probably none to happy about the guys destroying his lawn. The second is Arius and the Uroboros Company
setting up shop in Hell. Dante’s gonna
have a lot on his plate to deal with and these two will probably near the top
of that list. Just hope that whatever
they do with Arius is better than the whole of Devil May Cry 2.
To say Lady’s portrayal is divisive is…well let’s face
it, nobody likes how Lady has been handled in this series. From the overabundance of swearing to her
lack of her iconic outfits, she seemed like an entirely different
character. I like that her original
backstory was relatively unchanged and she does have an arc…but yeah she kinda
screws up big time in the Season Finale.
Season 2 has to be Lady’s redemption arc, for her to turn away from her
zealot like devotion to Darkcom and really, really make things right with
Dante.
#3-Trish
If Mundus wants to maneuver Dante into helping him repel
the invasion of Hell, what better way to motivate him than with a beautiful
woman who looks just like his long dead Mom?
Granted, Dante does want to find Vergil and that could be incentive
enough BUT bringing Trish in is what everybody really wants. The absolutely gorgeous Demonic blonde
bombshell could even give fans of the poor treatment of Lady something to cheer
for as the two femme fatales of DMC square off.
Just don’t make Trish pure evil ok?
One thing that I had been trying to wrap my head around
from all the DMC previews was Dante’s firearms…mainly that they aren’t Ebony
and Ivory, his trademark handguns. Sure
enough, Dante doesn’t have them in Season One, like at all. The dude desperately needs them as he’s power
is so great he runs through pistols like crazy.
Ebony and Ivory are as much a part of Dante as his red jacket and big
ass sword. Getting to see him draw these
babies for the first time and fall in love with them would be a huge highlight
for Season Two.
Yeah you cant just end Season One with a full blown
appearance by Dante’s equally cool twin brother and not have him take on a more
substantial role in Season Two.
Everytime Dante and Vergil cross swords in the video games, it’s some of
the best and most awesome action scenes ever created. Do we wanna see them fight side by side for
the greater good? Sure but more than
that, we need to see them fight and have a good one too. Also as much as I’d love to see Dante beat
the mess out of Baines (RIP Kevin Conroy), seeing Baines meets his end at the
hands of the impossibly powerful Vergil would put a huge smile on my face.
