T5W#500-Top 5 Favorite Photos from the Gundam Wing Katsucon 2025 Photoshoot

Holy freaking crap.  Like I knew this was coming but damn…500.  500 Top 5 Wednesdays.  Still trying to take that milestone in.  More importantly though, what could I even talk about for the big 5-0-0?  Well while working on last weeks Gundam Wing Anniversary centric list, I realized, of course I wanna talk about Gundam but I should make it unique, special, fitting for 500.  And man Im shocked I didn’t think of this sooner: it doesn’t get more unique, special and fitting than that time a few weeks back when I got to lead a Gundam Wing photoshoot at Katsucon.  This group of amazing cosplayers welcomed me into the fold and we had a freaking blast recreating moments from the series while putting our own spins on different ideas for the heck of it.  It’s one of my best experiences not just at a con but as a fan of Gundam in general.  So hell yes, that little mega event is what we’re gonna talk about.  I’m proud to present for my 500^th Top 5 Wednesday: my Top 5 Favorite Photos from the Gundam Wing Katsucon 2025 Photoshoot

#5-No time for love, Wufei

Let’s face it, Gundam Wing is as much for the girls as it is for the guys, especially when it comes to our core quintet of handsome pilots.  Most Yaoi shippers usually see Heero paired up with Duo and, more obviously, Trowa with Quatre.  But what about poor Wufei?  You could argue he gets shipped with Heero maybe (or probably Treize if we’re being honest).  Either way, this was a nice chance to have the two big pairings of the series enjoying their love while Wufei sits alone and miserable, poor guy but then again he has no time for that kind of stuff.

 
#4-This is OZ, nuff said

This was Wjay’s idea.  He wanted to try and recreate a specific image featuring the four main members of the OZ faction: Treize, Zechs, Lady Une and Noin.  I followed his lead on this one when it came to positioning and angles and I’ve gotta say, it’s just so cool seeing these four together like this as it so rarely happened in the show (maybe once or twice?).  It’s just as cool seeing this group emulate the sheer awesomeness that is the OZ faction, when these four were involved at least.  They really are as awesome as the Gundam Pilots they’re fighting against.
 

#3-GUNS GUNS GUNS!!!

Frozen Waffle Cosplay was the mad genius behind that legit looking Heavyarms EW at the photoshoot.  This included those two ridiculously awesome double gatling guns it got with its Endless Waltz Upgrade.  I forget who’s idea it was to have Trowa duel wield both of these mega cannons like a mad man but Cosplay213 was totally game for it.  Given how much crap Trowa deals with on a regular basis (doubly so if you know Gundam Wing Abridged by Operation Meatier), then you know even he has his limits.  Bonus points to another cool shot of Quatre trying to talk his bestie down from his rampage (not the last time Quatre would try this but more on that in a second).
 

#2-“The Duel is Mine”

Seeing as how we had a pair of swords at our disposal, one of which was my own Tensa Zangetsu from my first Otakon in 2010, I got the idea to recreate one of the cooler moments of Gundam Wing with Jem Cosplay and William Jay, specifically the moment when Wufei is soundly defeated by Treize in a one on one duel.  While we did get some fun shots of an alternate outcome where Wufei came out on top, this photo is my favorite.  Jay’s got Treize’s cool and calm demeanor down pat while Jem’s look of irritation and disappointment in Wufei’s defeat is dead on perfect.
 

#1-Cant we all just get along?

So of course since we had characters from both sides of the Gundam Wing conflict, why not get a shot of Heero, Duo, Trowa, Quatre and Wufei vs. Treize, Zechs, Lady Une and Noin in a Captain America: Civil War style showdown?  Even better, this is the ultimate battle, war personified…why not have Quatre try and play peacemaker between the two sides?  It’s a joke at Quatre’s expense as the shows resident warrior pacifist but the end result is hilarious and priceless.  It’s so great this group is down for such off the top of your head ideas like this.  Moments like this live rent free in my head and I cant wait to shoot with these guys again at a future con.
