Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 dropped this weekend after
two years of anticipation and…I’m not gonna lie I wasn’t a fan. The first season was already pretty uneven
for me and Season 2 did nothing to make the show worthy of the praise of it’s
near perfect predecessor. Still I’ll
save more thoughts on that for a future full series review. Today on Top 5 Wednesday, I’m talking about
ideas of where Nocturne could go should it be renewed for a third season. And even if it isn’t, the Castlevania video
game franchise is pretty big and could always try again with a new story or
adapting another game. So let’s take a
look at my Top 5 Ideas for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 3 (or future franchise
entries). Also I’ll be diving a little
bit into Season 2 Spoilers, so here’s your SPOILER WARNING!!
One of the more notable relationships in Nocturne has
been between Aztec Vampire Olrox and devoted Holy Knight Mizrak. Despite walking two different sides of faith
and darkness, somehow love blossomed between these two. In the Season Finale, a near death Mizrak is
bitten by Olrox to save his life. Now a
creature of the night like his lover, where does Mizrak go from here? I’m betting these two could get into some fun
and crazy adventures while navigating their new relationship status. Hopefully they don’t have anybody as crazy as
Erzsebet hovering over them.
I’ll be honest, I know little about Castlevania lore
beyond the TV Series and I’ve barely played any of the games. I do know that the Belmont line is long and
seemingly never ending. Aside from one
particular individual I’ll bring up later, I think the Animated wing of the
franchise could test the waters of possible projects with a Halo
Legends/Animatrix style anthology that picks various descendants and ancestors
of Trevor Belmont and follows them on a singular adventure. Like I said, some could prove more popular
than others and lead to more future spin off titles for the franchise.
If Nocturne has lacked one crucial component to it’s
predecessor’s success, it’s a strong core trio.
Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades and Alucard are a tough act to
follow. Their chemistry dynamic formed
the heart of Castlevania and they did more than just kick all kinds of ass
together. Seeing as how they managed to
survive a battle with Death itself, how about we see some of what happened to
this trio after the original series. Or
better yet, just have the three of them saddle up once again for another monster
slaying journey? Honestly when Alucard
did show up in Season 2 of Nocturne I was hoping to see Trevor and Sypha in
some kind of flashback.
While we only got to see her briefly in the very first
episode, Julia Belmont, Richter’s mother, left one helluva impression. It’s a shame she was killed off so soon cause
this woman, voiced by the talented and beautiful Sophie Skelton of Outlander
fame, deserves her own animated adventure.
Being part of one of the longest line of Vampire Hunters in history,
it’s right to assume Julia did plenty of slaying of her own, some likely
alongside her father, Juste, who was a major player in most of Nocturne. Perhaps we could even tie it further into
Nocturne and see how Julia first crossed paths with the Vampire who would
ultimately end her life, Olrox.
Personally, I think Alucard was woeful underutilized in
Season 2 outside of action sequences.
What always had my attention more was his little hint drops about the
adventures he’s been on since his time with Trevor and Sypha. He went to Japan, India, Alucard’s voice
indicates he loved looking at the growing of the new world. Any chance we can see some of this little
World Tour too? Especially Japan,
Alucard’s had some pretty interesting experience with Japanese vampires in the
past so it’d be awesome to see him square off with Vampire Samurai or
Ninjas. Who else does he meet? How does his world view grow or lessen? I’d rather have a series of this than listen
to Erzsebet pretend to be the poser Goddess she is.
