T5W#293-Top 5 Things I’m Looking Forward to in Resident Evil Village

Last weekend, Resident Evil celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary.  That’s 25 years of some of the coolest and most resilient bad asses battling some of the most iconic and long lasting nightmares in Video Game History.  The series has come a long way from a Special Ops Unit stranded in the Mansion from Hell.  As it turns out, we’ll be getting a brand new Resident Evil game during this milestone year: Resident Evil Village (aka Resident Evil VIII, though they don’t want to make that part of the title for some reason).  Village has become one of the most anticipated video games of the year and even I’m becoming more and more curious about it, probably because I’ve been delving deep into Resident Evil over the last year playing the Remakes and replaying 4&5.  Will the next chapter less than a couple of months away, todays Top 5 Wednesday will be covering the Top 5 Things I’m Looking Forward to in Resident Evil Village.  Theories, callbacks and rating one of the main villains in terms of hotness?  Let’s get cracking.

#5-Just Looks Better than VII, if not a little the same

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard caught me off guard and not just because of its change from third person to first person perspective.  Heading into a small house in the middle of nowhere only to be confronted by a family of twisted cannibals with enhanced abilities…it just didn’t feel like the RE I was used to, even if there was a very RE reason behind it all in the end.  Village seems to be continuing in the vein of VII, even bringing back protagonist Ethan Winters.  And yet, Village just looks more interesting.  Maybe it just feels grander, maybe its because the locales feel like theyre calling back to some early RE settings.  Other possible reasons, well, we’ll get to those.  Overall, it just looks a lot more like RE than Biohazard.

#4-Taking Cues from the Best Resident Evil Game

One thing that’s got everyone super amped for Village, myself included, is that it looks to be taking visual cues from one of, if not the, best Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4.  From the creepy European setting to the vast castle to the titular rundown village, I was definitely getting vibes of Leon’s visit to the quaint little town where he first crossed paths with Los Illuminados and their bio horrors.  We’re even getting the return of the Attache Case and Weapons Merchant from 4…kind of.  Known as the Duke, this Merchant might look a little different but he’s still got plenty of weapons and ammo Ethan will need to handle whatever is in this crazy place. Including…

#3-Vampires and Werewolves

Yeah, we’re a long way from Raccoon City’s streets infested with zombies, zombie dogs, Tyrants and Nemesis.  While I have no doubt even these new foes have a scientific origin, this’ll still be the first Resident Evil Game, that im aware of, that will feature Werewolves and Vampires.  In a way, yeah its not exactly the norm for RE but it shows that the franchise is willing to try something new with it’s enemy types.  The Werewolves in particular look very intimidating and could definitely tear Ethan a new one if he's not careful (better max out that Shotgun pronto).  Most of the Vampiric action we’ve seen in the previews has come from a small assortment of sister like terrors with their own unique abilities…which I guess is a good segue into our next topic…

#2-The Sexiest Giant Ever Conceived

Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, does she even need an introduction…besides a proper one with backstory within the game?  The second she was glimpsed in the first trailers of Resident Evil Village, the fan community went bonkers.  Fan art, cosplays, Rule 34 fan fiction, you name it, it’s been done.  It’s amazing a brand new RE character has gotten this much attention before the game has even come out.  Dimitrescu certainly looks alluring and imposing, she’s over 10ft tall.  But just how did she get this way…for that matter how old could she possibly be?  I know I said that there’s likely a scientific reasoning for all the happenings in the village (and theyre probably tied to Umbrella).  But how far back to they go and how does Dimitrescu fit into the mix?  Could she be one of Umbrella’s founders?  So much mystery…but I think everyones too focused on how freaking sexy Lady Dimitrescu looks to care.  Here’s hoping she doesn’t disappoint.

#1-WTF CHRIS, WHAT THE ACTUAL F***?

It was the moment that shook the fandom to it’s core, more than the unforgettable first appearance of Lady Dimitrescu.  After saving Ethan’s life in Resident Evil 7, Chris Redfield, considered by many to be the main hero of Resident Evil, burst into Ethan’s house with a hit team, stole his infant daughter and then shot his wife for good measure…Chris did what now?  To be honest I’m not even certain this is Chris.  Maybe it’s a clone or a look alike, someone out to ruin Mr. Redfield’s reputation.  Still, I cant believe that after 25 years of saving the day, Chris would just do something so…so…evil.  I’m not even sure Ethan is so popular, so making a villain out of your longitme hero just to make Ethan look good feels in bad form.  Come May 2021, we’ll get our answers and hope that Chris Redfield of all people hasn’t fallen to the Dark Side.  (And if he has, it’d better not be because Jill is “dead” again…cause nobody liked that, even if Jill got a sexy outfit out of the deal).
