T5W#103-Top 5 Gundam Wing Fantasy Casting Choices

We all did this as younger fans growing up, heck im sure plenty of us still do it today.  Fan casting is a given when watching popular Anime.  Who in real life could bring the awesomness and epic cool factors of our favorite characters to the big screen?  I already did a list like this a while back (http://gundamanimeblog.blogspot.com/2017/03/t5w83-top-5-fantasy-actors-for-live.html).  For this weeks Top 5, im gonna do it again but this time dedicate it exclusively to my Top 5 Gundam Wing Fantasy Casting Choices.  Some might be a little out there, so ill try to back up my logic as best as possible.

#5-Melissa Benoist as Dorothy Catalonia
We all know her as the indomitable Supergirl.  But Melissa Benoist can do more than just smile the prettiest smile and save the day in epic fashion.  In fact, part of that makes her a good choice for Dorothy alone, the smile.  Melissa can play the giddiest fangirl, which is kind of what Dorothy comes off as at times around Relena.  But then there’s the Supergirl episode where her darkside comes out to play thanks to Red Kryptonite.  Dorothy might not be as over the top cruel but Melissa could play that inner war lover and mocker of Relena’s pacifist beliefs just as well as the girl who appears to be in her corner.  Fangirl and deceiver, I think Melissa Benoist could pull them both off.

#4-Stephen Amell as Zechs Merquise
In a way, the Arrow actor could be a good Char as well.  For Zechs however, I think Stephen Amell has the acting chops to be both bad ass and vulnerable in moments where Zechs seems unsure about his own destiny.  The man can act, man can he pull off some dramatic moments on Arrow.  Stephen could just as easily master Zech’s personal monologues as well as deliver the epic war cries Zechs is best known for.  I could just hear him practicing, “I’ve mastered numerous Mobile Suits in the past so why…WHAT AM I AFRAID OF!!!??” almost like delivering his signature Arrow intro line “You have failed this city.”

#3-Tom Holland as Quatre Reberba Winner
This was actually suggested by a good friend of mine and I can see why.  As the Peter Parker of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland seems the right kind of eager eyed optimist that we see Quatre as throughout the series.  I cant really see him with blonde hair but his natural look is wayyyy better than the Quicksilver haircut they gave Light Yaga-I mean Turner in the new Death Note movie, so some liberties could be taken with hairstyles.  Still, Tom Holland is a solid up and coming actor and Quatre’s pacifist nature coupled with his bad ass piloting skills with Gundam Sandrock could be properly translated with Holland’s acting powers.

#2-Evan Peters as Duo Maxwell
Had to think long and hard about this one.  Who would be a good choice for one of my all time favorite Anime characters, nevermind my favorite on Gundam Wing itself?  While I think, in the end, unknowns would be the best casting approach with the Gundam Boys (Heero, Duo, Trowa, Quatre, Wufei) and Relena, Evan Peters suddenly popped into my head out of the blue.  What’s Duo like?  He’s a joker, a carefee guy and a deadly opponent when he needs to be.  That sounds a lot like Evan Peters’ Peter Maximoff aka Quicksilver from the X-Men films.  Plus I could see entire scenes dedicated to Deathsythe slicing guys up to an epic music playlist, a la Quicksilvers scene stealing moments in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.  Now…could he pull off the ponytail?

#1-Michael Fassbender as Treize Kushrenada
Treize Kushrenda is one of the most important characters in all of Gundam Wing.  He commands loyalty through respect, understanding and tactical manipulation.  He’s the man with a plan and, for the most part, one who can do no wrong.  For some reason, Michael Fassbender was an immediate first choice for this role.  Even in movies that absolutely suck (COUGH COUGH ALIEN COVANENT AND PROMETHEUS COUGH COUGH), Fassbender manages to do the impossible and deliver a masterful performance you will always remember.  The man can play any role with gravitas, charm and the immediate sense that his characters are guys you’d want to grab a friendly drink with.  Such a man could lead an empire, and that’s the kind of man Treize is, King of the World.  So why not give his role to an actor who is King of the Actors themselves?
