AMV Friday #6- Haruhi Suzumiya: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Teaser Trailer

(The following video is a fan based production.  All titles are property of their respective owners, please support the official release.)

The idea for this trailer started right after I first saw the teaser trailer for David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  I fell in love, mostly with the rendition of Immigrant Song used in the trailer, but also with the editing style used.  There were probably over one hundred shots used and all in and under a single second long.  In many ways, it was the ultimate teaser trailer with the right mix of sound and images that made it seem more like a music video than a trailer.  I wanted a shot at it right away and actually, with Harry Potter coming to an end, I wanted to do one huge HP trailer that encompassed all eight films.  Sadly this was never to be.  And then I saw The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya on Youtube and immediately put it on my list of top 10 greatest anime ever seen.  The look and feel of it reminded me of a novel brought to life and it was very high profile in Japan when it came out.  Hence, I decided that post-Christmas, if I didn’t get it as a Christmas gift, I would purchase the DVD and get to work on the trailer.  The end result isn’t perfect and it doesn’t sync up 100% (maybe between 60-70%) but after spending a record 9 HOURS on this 1 minute and 30 second trailer I am very happy with how it turned out and how far I have come in my editing hobby.  I have brand new sympathy for editors everywhere who have to dedicate so much time to simple scenes that take hours, even days to work on.  If I had to redo my top 5 greatest AMV’s ever made or even if I made a top 10 (which could be possible once this season is eventually finished) this trailer would certainly find its way there.
