T5W#419-Top 5 Power Rangers Series I Havent Seen Yet

I’ll be honest.  For all my adoration of the Power Rangers franchise, I wouldn’t call myself a die hard fan.  Most of my experience comes from the first few seasons from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers through the beginning of Lost Galaxy.  From then on things get a bit more, spotty to say the least. I know who many characters are and I know basic premises of many of the subsequent series.  Unlike say Mobile Suit Gundam, however, I haven’t gone out of my way to check out every single Power Rangers show and there are some I haven’t even watched at all (a snippet or two at best).  Continuing with my Power Rangers 30th Anniversary shoutouts, todays Top 5 Wednesday will be delving into the Top 5 Power Rangers Series I Havent Seen Yet.  Are any of these worth checking out in full?

#5-Power Rangers Jungle Fury
This is a season of Power Rangers that just seems…idk kind of there.  Each series seems to circle back around to familiar themes.  As such Jungle Fury cycles back around to the Jungle motifs from Wild Force.  But like I said, there was never anything about this season that ever grabbed me.  It kind of looks mostly forgettable if I’m honest and even the not so great seasons of Power Rangers have something that stands out about them.  The only thing I can think of is the Yellow Ranger has gone on to do more…mature projects such as being one of the leading ladies in a season of Starz’s acclaimed Spartacus series.  Other than that, is there anything about Jungle Fury worth the watch?

#4-Power Rangers Beast Morphers
This was the first new Power Rangers series of the Hasbro Era, which succeeded the Neo Saban Era that lasted from Samurai to Ninja Steel.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from this season but I’ll admit, one of the reasons I’ve stayed away from it is the uniforms.  The Beast Morphers outfits are very different from preceding shows and the helmets in particular just look…weird.  Also I know it’s Power Rangers but even this one seemed more geared towards a much younger audience than before.  I know that’s little excuse for giving a show a decent shot and I’ve heard it’s not that bad compared to other seasons.  I also hear it has ties to one of the best seasons in the franchise (wont say which for spoilers), and that alone might make it worth a look.

#3-Power Rangers SPD
A series focused on space fairing Power Rangers in the future?  Seems like a pretty good one to hop on board with right, especially with a setup that feels like a combo of In Space and Time Force.  Wellll I’ll admit by this point in the franchise I’d fallen away a bit and wasn’t paying too close attention to Power Rangers outside of the odd glimpse.  What snippets I did see never caught my interest, especially with the super vain Pink Ranger.  There is Commander Doggy though, whose character design and name feel like they were inspired by General Pepper from the Star Fox series and he does look pretty cool.  Still, the idea of Space Cop Power Rangers has just never grabbed me like Time Force did, granted SPD doesn’t have anyone as cool or as endearing a character as Jen or Wes.

#2-Power Rangers Ninja Steel
Now this one basically went completely under my radar.  In fact with the Neo Saban Era being such a mixed bag overall, it kind of makes sense that Ninja Steel came and went without a lot of fanfare.  Sure they might’ve had a better anniversary offering with a crossover featuring the return of fan favorites like Tommy (in what would sadly be Jason David Frank’s last official appearance), Katherine, Gia, even Rocky and TJ.  But there wasn’t really anything else about Ninja Steel to make it a memorable outing for the franchise for me to get into (a cute Pink and White Ranger not withstanding).  I’ve also heard that they had to dumb down the Ninja aspect for US audiences…which begs the question of why they’d choose to adapt this season at all.

#1-Power Rangers Mystic Force
Power Rangers has always been a science fiction franchise to me.  Yes there are mystical elements here and there but I’ve never associated it with high fantasy.  Hence why Mystic Force always puzzled me.  I just don’t see Magic and Power Rangers as a pair.  And yet there is this Season that just feels buried in the middle of the entire franchise and I’m not sure it’s in anyones Top 5 or 10 list.  I’m not saying there cant be any magical themed super teams out there (anyone remember the short lived Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog).  But of all the entries in the Power Rangers mythos, this is the one I’m least in a hurry to check out.
