The world of Cyberpunk Anime is home to some of the
coolest and most insane characters in all of Anime. It’s definitely home to some of the hottest
ladies in the medium. And while
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has given us the likes of Lucy and Becca to fawn over,
for me the quintessential Queen of Cyberpunk of still Major Motoko Kusinagi
from Ghost in the Shell. As a lifelong
Military operative, Motoko is efficient and bad ass in everything she does. Not only that, but if it isn’t obvious, she’s
hot as hell and isn’t above showing off just how sexy she looks on a regular
basis. Casual, on the job, even in the
middle of combat, The Major has an outfit for every occasion. Since we’re rolling with Section 9 once again
with Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, why don’t we highlight the greatest hits
from The Major’s extensive wardrobe.
Today I present my choices for the Top 5 Motoko Kusanagi Outfits from
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
As the title implies, I’ll be covering the SAC saga including the first
two TV Series, SAC_2045 and the Solid State Society Movie. As much as I love younger Motoko’s all red
look from Ghost in the Shell: Arise, that might be a list for another time.
At first glance this ensemble is a less layered version
of the combat suit Motoko wears during her Section 9 days. Don’t get me wrong,
the shimmering catsuit and matching combat boots and gloves are a very nice
look. But what really sets this look apart is the simple addition of a long
black coat. It gives Motoko a very vigilante vibe, which you have to admit she
has always wished to be, not being held back by rules and red tape. She tops
off the look with slick purple shades that match her hair. It’s a perfect
marriage of her old ties to Section 9 while Motoko branches off on her own.
Now that she’s out of Section 9, Motokos a free agent who
can take on any job she wants whenever she wants. This new outfit echoes that
sentiment as it’s both sexy and comfy but also still feels combat ready. The
swimsuit leotard top in particular looks like it might be reinforced (though
it’s probably not, it just looks good). Not to mention those pants perfectly
show off her very deadly legs. This is Motokos “getting away from it all while
still being ready for work” outfit, perfect for black ops missions and summer
bbqs alike.
For The Major’s first big foray into Anime since the
original 1995 movie, Motoko showed us that she’s willing to go a bit more bold
with her fashion choices. This opening
look with a jacket over a revealing purple leotard and matching thigh high
boots is arguably one of Motoko’s most iconic looks in the entire
franchise. It’s clear that this is a
lady who will dress how she wants, when she wants, no matter the job or mission
(even Aramaki had to call Motoko on a similar outfit when Motoko didn’t have a
change of clothes). Personally, I prefer
the look a bit later in Season One when she pairs the leotard with pants, it
just looks better to me.
Section 9 is basically a Black Ops unit and whenever they
head into their field, every member has the same all back (or grey) combat
uniform. Motoko is no exception but naturally she stands out among the bunch
for fairly obvious reasons. Motoko has a pretty hot cyborg body and the combat
bodysuit shows off every angle and accentuates her turn figure regardless of
how much or how little gear she’s carrying around with her. Seriously, she
should be thankful her men have such respect/partial fear for her because
otherwise it would be damn near impossible to focus on the mission with a
Goddess like her sneaking around in that number.
It’s hard to believe give some of her more daily risqué
wardrobe choices that Motoko is an official military officer. She may not dress
for the role for her day job but even Motoko has options for more formal
events. The tan Military garb is a nice color for her and it helps her
impressive collection of military badges stand out. But much like everything
else she wears, Motokos always ready for action. There’s a very high slit on
her skirt that not only showcases her legs in tights but also allows her to do
many of her impressive acrobatic feats with ease. It’s a quintisential outfit for Motoko in
this universe. So much so it has made
welcome appearances in all three seasons of Stand Alone Complex. A woman in
uniform has never looked this good.
