#5-Transformers: War for Cybertron-Kingdom
There have been a ton of revivals for popular 80s cartoons on Netflix like She-Ra and the forthcoming He-Man continuation from Kevin Smith. The Transformers has been enjoying similar success thanks to a US/Japanese co production of a prequel/reboot series focusing on the last days of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons before it came to Earth. Well in the final chapter of this trilogy, the fight reaches Earth…but not the one you might think. The mother of all teases finally comes to pass as it looks like the stage is set between the Autobots and Decepticons…and their future descendants, the Maximals and Predacons. That’s right GENERATION 1 MEET BEAST WARS AT LAST!!! Ahem…im not excited at all.
#4-Godzilla: Singular Point
The King of the Monsters has seen a nice little resurge of popularity in the last few years. You’ve had the Legendary Pictures Monsterverse that culminated in the excellent Godzilla vs. Kong in the US and Hideaki Anno got to direct his dream project with Shin Godzilla in Japan, giving us one of the best Godzilla films in ages. When it comes to Godzilla Anime though…there’s a crummy Anime film trilogy that many people wish had never happened (and got some of the lowest scores here on the blog with the third film getting a 0/10). Well it looks like fan favorite Studio Bones is looking to give us the Anime the King deserves with Singular Point. Besides the big man himself, expect appearances from several monsters including Rodan and Angirus and…of all the classic characters to choose from, Jet Jaguar? The trailers have had a heavy focus on the humans of the story, including an old man who thinks Jet Jaguar is the greatest thing ever…here’s hoping Big G shows them who truly rules in a series that bears his name.
#3-Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
After the disaster that was Resident Evil 6, many feared the worst for one of the greatest horror video game franchises of all time. But with the success of Resident Evil VII: Biohazzard, the Remakes of Resident Evil 2 & 3and the recent Resident Evil: Village, fears seem to have been assuaged. Infinite Darkness will see RE2 heroes Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield reunite to deal with a new bio threat larger than anything they’ve faced before…well at least during the time span between Resident Evil 4 & 5. This Anime looks gorgeous, like the culmination of the animated efforts put into the trilogy of Resident Evil CG movies (Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta). And, honestly, after spending an infuriating amount of time with the lackluster Ethan Winters in RE Village, it’ll be good to see classic heroes Leon and Claire back in action again (Claire btw looks hella gorgeous with glasses).
#2-Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway
With the Live Action Mobile Suit Gundam project from Legendary Pictures confirmed to be debuting on the platform, it looks like Netflix is set to be the future home of all things Gundam. As if to hammer that possibility home, the latest Gundam theatrical film, Gundam: Hathaway, is debuting on Netflix only a few weeks after its release in Japan. The film will center on the titular Hathaway Noa, son of legendary captain Bright Noa, and his run in with a terrorist organization that might offer him an outlet to deal with the grief he still feels for the loss of a loved one. Granted it’s gonna take a lot to make people care about Hathaway AND the girl he’s mourning cause they were easily the weakest elements of Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. But new Gundam is new Gundam and getting it so soon is always exciting. As a bonus, Netflix is also bringing over the original Mobile Suit Gundam Compilation Trilogy and Char’s Counterattack before Hathaway drops. Time to start binging some more Gundam folks.
#1-Rurouni Kenshin: The Final and Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning
Seeing this pop up on my Netflix screensaver made me scream with pure joy. I thought I was going to have to wait much longer to even have a chance at seeing these two movies. But sure enough, we’re getting them on Netflix. Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, actually arrives this Friday, a couple of months after it dropped in Japan. I can only imagine that The Beginning, which only just premiered in Japan, will arrive somewhere between August and September if it follows that example, if not sooner. You better believe these two are getting reviewed here but I’m probably going to wait a bit so I can post them back to back together. Maybe they’ll go up on my Birthday, who knows. What I do know is that ive been all in on the Live Action Kenshin saga since the beginning and I cannot wait to see how it all ends.
Also I did 2 Top 5’s with background on both movies if
you wanna revisit those:
