Anime Corner-Summer 2021 Update

It dawned on me recently that it’s been a while since ive done any check ins and status updates for the Anime Corner.  It’s been a long year for me and 2021 is only half done.  It’s been a year of change and adjustments and there are times I feel like some of that has affected what I can give to this blog that I love so much.  Granted, a lot of the reviews for this year were written last year but I also did more mini events and bonus reviews too.  I need to think about how to really pack in some fun new material for the back half of the year and some of that starts in the next couple of months.  Here’s what’s in store up through September here at the Gundam Anime Corner.

July-Mobile Suit Victory Gundam

We’re about to begin our next Extended Summer Series on Monday with Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, our latest return to the Gundam Multiverse and a major turning point for the Gundam franchise.  It’s the, as of now, last full length TV Series set in the Universal Century, and set the farthest within it as well.  Victory also boasts some of the franchises darkest moments and one of its heftier kill counts courtesy of Yoshiyuki “Kill em All” Tomino.  It seems weird to call the Extended Summer Series Review by that name considering I’ve reviewed two equally long shows this year with G Gundam and Macross…but tradition is tradition.  And as it turns out, the last review of Victory Gundam will go up just before Otakon begins…

August-Vandread: The Second Stage & First Impression Fridays

August some major changes are coming to the blog.  We’ll be going back to one review a week, every Monday, until December when I have yet another major Gundam event planned for years end.  Part of this is because First Impression Fridays is coming back in the middle of the month: a whole new set of first thoughts on first episodes of a bunch of Anime, some of which are primed for full reviews in the future.  As for main reviews, we’re heading back to the Nirvana, still stuck on the far side of the universe, for Vandread: The Second Stage.  When we last left our plucky crew of three guys and a ton more girls, they’d finally gotten their Battle of the Sexes settled.  Which is good because there might be much fewer laughs and dirty humor considering what’s coming next.

September-Dragon Ball Movie Marathon

Believe it or not, there was an age of Dragon Ball before the days of Ultra Instinct, Multiverse Tournaments, Super Saiyans, even the Spirit Bomb.  That era was called…well Dragon Ball.  For no reason other than Ive just been waiting to get to these for years, I’ll be taking a look at the original three Dragon Ball Movies: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle & Mystical Adventure.  In addition, I’ll also be covering the 10th Anniversary film, Path to Power.  Not much else planned for September other than this but that can always change.

As for Otakon…yeah, it’s happening but only for a day.  So you can expect a Top 5 report on Otakon 2021 the Wednesday after its all said and done.  It’s very tempting to try and do the full weekend but I’m not quite ready for that yet.  By Katsucon in February, however, that’s a different story.  Anyway, that about covers the updates for now.  I guess I’ll try to remember to do another one before I get to October and the month of scares that awaits then.  Til then, hope everyones ready for the end of the Summer of TRIGGER event today with Promare...plus a special bonus review of Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, all on the 4th of July right here at the Gundam Anime Corner.
