Back around Christmas, I finally decided to give Persona
5 a proper chance after two false starts.
Well, just like Jujutsu Kaisen, third times proven to be the charm as I’ve
been sinking a couple hours a night into this game since the start of 2026.
TBH, it does start a bit slow but once you get going and are allowed to level
up, gear up and have an active social life, Persona 5 really does live up to
its rep as one of the best JRPGs out there.
And one area it defintiley excels at is the plethora of romantic options. Basically almost every female supporting character
is romanceable from your teammates to Teachers moonlighthing as Maids to a Gothic
Doctor with a penchant for using you to test medicine. To my shock, there are options to romance
more than one girl (and there’s a hilarious outcome if you somehow achieve the “Harem
Route”). Tempting as that is, it’s a
game in and of itself choosing who you want to dedicate your heart before the
end of the game and definitely is a draw for multiple playthroughs to see how
each play out. So, while I know I’m well
past Valentines Day, I’ve been pushing to try and beat this game before my vacation
this weekend (and the inevitable purchase of Resident Evil Requiem that will
take up a ton of time once I’m back).
Ergo, today’s Top 5 Wednesday shines the spotlight down on 5 particular
beauties who are the Top 5 Romantic Partners in Persona 5.
Chihiya is a nighttime fortune teller based in
Shinjuku. As alluring as her powers are
mysterious, Chihiya has an interesting dynamic with the Protagonist and the
major themes of Persona 5. Through their
interactions, Chihiya grows to learn that fate is not set in stone and can be changed
with the heart and will to do so.
Changing her world view gets Chihiya to open up about her line of work
and past and the more you hear, the more you want to give her a hug and protect
her at all costs.
One of the more “forbidden” romances, Tae isn’t exactly your
typical practitioner of medicine. She’s
a bit of a maverick but is your go to for most healing items and the more time
you spend as her “guinea pig”, the better recovery you attain. But don’t let the demeanor or amazing legs
fool you, Tae deep down has a truly caring heart not just for your well being
but all of her patients. Her constant
teasing is certainly more than enough to encourage multiple visits to her
office.
#3-Makoto Nijima
The golden girl of Shujin Academy, Makoto is an ace
student and President of the Student Council.
While she starts off cold and with her own agenda, turns out your goals
align and she really wants to join the cause of the Phantom Theives for the
sake of her equally attractive older sister.
Makoto is a dream girl for anyone who wants smarts and brawn in equal
measure. She’s the teams tactician who
can also throwdown with moves no one would expect her to have. Plus, it’s always awesome when the potential girlfriend
can double as a kick ass bodyguard.
First introduced in the Personal 5 Royal update, Kasumi
is a fascinating character in that she feels tailor made to be the main love
interest of the Protagonist. Looking
past her good looks and incredible gymnast skills, Kasumi seems to be genuinely
interested in your character from the get go and that bond only deepens the
more you hang out and get to know each other.
Yes, you have to meet certain criteria to win her heart and complete her
story (something I’m definitely going to have to do on my planned second
playthrough). But Kasumi’s go getter
attitude and wish to help you no matter what is well worth the extra effort.
Next to Kasumi, Ann seems the closest to a cannon
romantic partner for the Protagonist.
She is the first girl you befriend in the game. You go on to co-found the Phantom Thieves
with Morgana and Ryuji. And you help Ann
persevere through one of the games most heartbreaking subplots. Everything they experience together and help
each other through, a strong friendship is a no brainer but falling for Ann
isnt hard either. Plus, if you’re
persona (no pun intended) basically makes you the worlds equivalent of Batman,
then Ann is definitely your Catwoman in her Panther outfit.
