This past weekend, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen’s long awaited
third season got a special sneak peak when Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution dropped in
theaters. Acting in the same vein as what
Demon Slayer has done in the past Execution is a Compilation Preview film
featuring the last episode of The Shibuya Incident (aka Season 2) followed by
the first two episodes of The Culling Game (Part 1) (aka Season 3). It’s been a little over two years since the
battle that left an Akira sized hole where Shinjuku used to be and the entire
status quo of JJK has been changed forever. A lot of character fates and plot
threads have been hanging for fans (who haven’t read the Manga) to mull over
and on todays Top 5 Wednesday, I’m sharing my own set of questions I’d like to
see answered when Jujutsu Kaisen returns in January 2026. These are my Top 5 Questions that Need to be
Answered in Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Part 1).
There’s no beating about the bush, much of the
destruction of Shibuya can be laid at Yuji Itadori’s feet, or rather the super
powerful Demon Lord taking up residence in his body. Yuji’s already had a death marker on his head
because of Sukuna and now it’s been reinstated by the Jujutsu Sorcerer Higher
ups. They’ve even appointed a familiar face
to carry out Yuji’s execution: our Jujutsu Kaisen 0 protagonist Yuta Okotsu. Now: based on what Execution showed us, Yuta
is on Yuji’s side but that doesn’t mean Yuji’s safe from the rest of the
world. What other official Jujutsu
forces might come bearing down on him and how will Yuji handle life on the run?
#4-Is Mahito done for good?
The sinister and overpowered curse Mahito caused plenty
of mayhem in Shibuya and even took down one or two fan favorite characters
right before Yuji’s eyes. It was only
with the help of my boy Todo that Yuji was able to give Mahito the righteous
ass kicking he’d been begging for since he first appeared. It certainly put the fear of God into Mahito
but then he was suddenly reabsorbed by whatever entity is controlling the corpse
of Suguru Geto. It feels like kind of anticlimactic
fate for such a heavy hitter. So I cant
really get behind Mahito being out of the game for good. Will he reappear in Season 3 to partake in
the titular Culling Game and take his revenge on Yuji?
Alright, I’m just gonna say it: I’m not a Gojo fan. Could list a bunch of reasons why whether it’s
his holier than thou attitude or near invincibility but that’s for another time
if I wanna deal with the backlash.
Anyway, Gojo ended up in a surprisingly bad spot early into the Shibuya
Incident. Distracted by the reappearance
of Geto, Gojo was captured and sealed away by the enemy, eliminated the Jujutsu
Sorcerer’s most powerful asset. Gojo’s still Gojo. Whether by popular fan demand or his own grab
bag of unstoppable skills, he’s bound to break free eventually. He does seem content just chilling out while everyone
picks up the slack on the outside though.
This one still stings.
Remember when I said Mahito took down some major players right in front
of Yuji, well one of those appeared to be one of my own personal favs: the
beautiful and bad ass Nobara Kugisaki. I
remember wanting to riot when I saw this happen (and then Todo showed up and I felt
hope return). However, unlike Nanami,
whose upper torso is all over the place now unfortunately, I’m still holding
out hope that Nobara is missing an eye (at least) and has a chance to recover
and return to the fray. Look, if Maki
could survive nearly getting burned to death by Jogo, I’m holding out hope
Nobara’s gonna reunite with Yuji and Megumi to put the hammer down once more.
I know I wasn’t the only one in the theater when
Execution quickly flashed a ten second rule book on the newly announced “Culling
Game” and went “Wait can you run all that by me again?” From what I gathered, it looks like some kind
of deathmatch amongst various Jujutsu Sorcerers with an end goal of…well I don’t
know. It interesting this event would
come into effect so soon after Shinjuku’s destruction and the whole of Tokyo on
alert for Curses and Monsters running around the streets. Whatever this Culling Game really is, it doesn’t
sound good and Yuji and his remaining allies will no doubt be caught in the
middle of it as they try to rescue Gojo and stop Not Geto’s master plans.
