This Summer season has just flown by. It still just feels like yesterday Otakon
2025 wrapped up. It’s been a pretty
crazy season for me personally but the Anime Corner still chugs along and as always,
we’re heading to the end of the Summer Season and the start of Fall with a slew
of exciting new reviews and returning features, including some much anticipated
reviews and the conclusion of a major seasonal event. Here’s what’s coming over the next couple of
months.
We’re in the final stretch of the Mega Mecha Summer
that began all the way back in May with Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture. We’re currently two thirds of the way through
Patlabor: The Mobile Police and will be wrapping that up Next
Monday. That’ll close out August and
take us right into September where we’re making a big return to the Macross
universe. Originally I wanted to look at
this right after Otakon but I needed a break from Macross after the suffering Macross
7 put me through back in July. But
the break’s over and Macross Frontier is on deck to, hopefully, correct
what Macross 7 got sorely wrong. Also, First
Impression Friday returns with a Double Sized Mid Season Premiere tomorrow,
get hyped since it’ll be hitting it’s 250th episode before wrapping
up Season 10 in November.
The Month of Ghouls and Terrors has gone through a couple
of iterations when it comes to planning.
Ghost Stories was under major consideration but I might end up
holding off on that for October 2026.
Then came the new Netflix Anime adaptation of Devil May Cry and
that got the community in a tizzy. I’ll
no doubt get to that show when it wraps its complete run but in the meantime,
there is another Devil May Cry Anime I’m opting to look at, the often
overlooked Devil May Cry: The Animated Series from back in the early
2000’s. Is it never talked about for a
reason? We’ll find out. Since that only
covers three out of four weeks in October, the week of Halloween will have two extra
reviews: Predator: Killer of Killers (almost just in time for Predator:
Badlands, which I’m very excited to see) and the one I know everyones
waiting for me to finally talk about: Kpop Demon Hunters. And there’s a good chance I’ll see Mortal
Kombat II right when it comes out so expect a review of that too as a
bonus.
The last couple of years have seen my birthday month
taken up by a little known King of the Monsters and this November is no different
cause I’ve still got a lot of Godzilla to cover. Godzilla Month IV will kick off
November 3rd with another selection of random Godzilla films from
across his first three eras including: Godzilla vs. Hedorah; Godzilla
vs. Biollante; Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah; and Godzilla vs.
Megagirus. And since I like to do a
special review on my birthday, I hear Star Wars Visions 3 is dropping
Halloween weekend, so keep an eye out for that (unless it’s postponed in which
case I should think of a Plan B).
