Ronin Warriors Part 7 Episodes 31-35

Ryo, Rowen and White Blaze cross into the Netherworld itself to rescue Cye, Sage and Kento from captivity.  The greatest warriors the demon hordes have to offer await them, including the beautiful Kayrua, who’s ferocious power can only be matched by Ryo’s unstable Inferno Armor.  Meanwhile, Anubis, who now carries the legacy and power of the Ancient One, teams up with Mia and Yuli for a quest that could prove vital to the downfall of Talpa and the Dynasty.  But the Dark Lord is harnessing the power of three captured Ronin Warriors to fuel his fighters for battle.  Can Sage, Cye, and Kento hold on, or will Talpa’s shadow strategy and Kayrua’s power finally bring down the last of the Ronin Warriors?

Last week, we saw three out of five Ronin Warriors get systematically captured while the other two went into Hell without a plan to save them.  This week we got some real good stuff out of Ronin Warriors going into the final stretch…most of it just wasn’t out of the Warriors themselves until close to the end.

Well turns out Talpa boasting that the Armor of the Ronins was dangerous and potentially evil wasn’t totally off base.  As we learn from Talpa and his new wiseman, Badamon, the Inferno Armor is basically a walking mystical atom bomb with the ability to destroy multiple worlds at once.  Ryo’s got good reason to bust out its power but was he even aware that one of his strongest attacks bled into the Real World too?  The Inferno Armor was already a wild card but it is now so more than ever.  And it’s the only way Ryo and Rowen can get anything done in the Netherworld.  While they did battle an array of foes including the Dark Warlords again, whenever they went up against Kayrua, they had a rinse and repeat cycle of getting their asses easily handed to them before Ryo could somehow summon the Inferno Armor and drive them off.  Honestly, it’s a miracle they make it as far as they do without getting captured…when that actually should have been the plan all along.  Ryo’s bull headed rush the enemy tactics could only last so long before someone got smart about things…so how about the guy who’s supposed to be the wisest.  Rowen definitely earned the highest mark of any Ronin Warrior in this arc for being able to get captured on purpose and free the captured Sage, Cye and Kento, setting the stage for a good start to the end of the series next week.  Ryo, you might have the most “character development” of the five but you’re slipping dude.  Rowen did what you guys should have done four episodes ago.

While Ryo and Rowen were being treated as punching bags by the whole of the Netherworld (most by Kayrua and her cute figure but super annoying laugh), Mia, Yuli and Anubis were back to remind us why they continue to outshine the main heroes of this show time and time again.  The trio ended up going on a bit of an Indiana Jones style adventure to locate and artifact that, when combined with the Inferno Armor and the Twin Fever Swords, could spell the end of the Netherworld.  Between Mia’s intellect, Yuli’s eternal optimism and Anubis’s newfound abilities, these three made for the best and most entertaining collection of characters.  It was good to see Anubis open up to both Mia and Yuli and become accepted by them as a true member of the team, not just because he’s got the Ancient One’s staff and legacy now.  And Holy Crap, he can kick ass so much better now.  Easily the best action sequence of this set came from Anubis, Mia and Yuli’s arrival to the Netherworld. Teamed up with a White Blaze with a Scythe in his mouth, Anubis and the Ronin Warriors Battle Cat (sans Armor) tore through legions of henchmen without breaking a sweat…remind me again why we even need Ryo and his team at this point?  Even Yuli’s protected by God now or something with the Jewel he, Anubis and Mia found.  So can rush into anything without fear of getting mangled by the Dark Warlords.

Despite her annoying laugh, Kayrua continues to shine as one of the best villains on the show.  I know I complained about her being a little too OP but when Ryo and Rowen refuse to come up with a proper plan to deal with her, they kind of deserve the beating coming their way.  In all seriousness, even if she didn’t have her abilities, Kayrua exerts a confidence that cant be denied.  Hell, she even really did hold her own against all three Dark Warlords at one point in this set of episodes.  The real question now is…who is Kayrua really?  Twice, two of the three treasures that cant instantly kill demons failed to work on her.  This coupled with Talpa’s mysterious gentle treatment of Kayrua when she’s dressed like a Shinto Priestess hint that this bad girl might have a role to play for the side of good in the final battle.  Though I do wish we’d begun exploring this angle more sooner, I’ll still take Kayrua sitting sexy under the moonlight with cherry blossoms swirling around her over the lackluster other villains that have been put in Ryo and Rowen’s way so far, like the incredibly disappointing General Dala, who was just Saranbou recolored.

It’s kind of funny that most of the Ronin Warriors have been locked away for so long and the other two are just barely holding on thanks to luck and a nuclear set of armor.  Because everyone but the Warriors themselves was getting some of the best material in this march to the series finale.  Anubis showed how far he’s come as a character; Mia, Yuli and White Blaze prove they can all share the title of MVP for the series; and Kayrua is incredibly entertaining and fun to watch as a villain. If Ryo can avoid yet another ass kicking in the next few episodes now that Rowen got the band back together (yes, all credit for that goes strictly to Rowen), maybe the Ronin Warriors can shine one more time in their own show…and if they don’t that sucks but there’s still the OVAs for extra credit.

Before that though, lets get to Wednesday and the Series Finale of Ronin Warriors. See ya then everyone.
